Are We Korah Like?

I came across this post from Carlos Rigdon on a facebook group that discusses the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses.  With his permission I am reposting it here as I believe he has something interesting to say on the matter.  I have made a few minor amendments to the original because, as a charity, Reachout Trust has to be slightly more circumspect in our postings!

"Jehovah’s Witnesses love to claim that those who criticize the governing body are like Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, rebels who spoke against Moses and were destroyed by God.

They love to compare their leaders with Moses.

But that comparison collapses the moment you actually open your Bible.

Moses had undeniable evidence of divine appointment, when God sent Moses, He didn’t expect people to blindly trust a human committee.

He gave clear, supernatural proof of His backing.

Exodus 4:1–9 - God gave Moses visible signs: a staff that became a serpent, a hand that turned leprous and healed, water that turned to blood.

Exodus 7–12 – Moses accurately foretold and carried out ten plagues exactly as God said.

Exodus 14:21–31 – Moses parted the Red Sea by God’s command before the eyes of all Israel.

When Moses spoke, God confirmed his words openly, there was no need to say "trust the one taking the lead", the evidence spoke for itself

Can the governing body say the same? they have NO miracles, NO fulfilled prophecies, NO divine authentication, only self-asserted authority

Moses did not demand loyalty to himself; when people opposed Moses, his instinct was not to defend his ego, but to fall on his face before God - Numbers 16:4

He didn’t threaten people with destruction or disfellowshipping, he prayed for them.

Even when Miriam and Aaron criticized him, Moses didn’t retaliate, he interceded for Miriam when she was struck with leprosy.

Contrast that with the governing body, which commands absolute submission, expels anyone who questions them, and demands blind loyalty.

Moses pointed people upward to God, the governing body points inward to itself.

Moses was humble, the governing body is self-exalting

Scripture says plainly:

"Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth" - Numbers 12:3

Moses never used his authority for personal status or privilege, he didn’t live comfortably while his people laboured in the wilderness.

Meanwhile, the governing body lives comfortably, travels freely, and expects global obedience, even though they’ve been wrong again, and again, and again...

A humble man admits his failures, an arrogant one redefines them as "adjustments".

Moses also never claimed to be God’s exclusive "channel".

Nowhere in Scripture did Moses say, "you must follow me/read my scrolls to know Jehovah" nor did he promote himself as nearly exclusively "anointed".

In fact, Moses longed for all God’s people to be filled with His Spirit:

"Oh, that all of Yahweh's people were prophets and that Yahweh would put His Spirit upon them!" - Numbers 11:29

The governing body, on the other hand, claims to be the ONLY channel through which God speaks today, a claim Moses would have rejected outright.

Moses invited others to share in God’s Spirit, the governing body restricts it.

Moses was punished for self-glorification ONCE, the governing body glorifies itself constantly , if not daily.

When Moses said,

"Must WE bring you water out of this rock?", God rebuked and punished him for taking credit that belonged to God alone.

That single act cost Moses entry into the Promised Land.

Yet the governing body constantly takes credit, is constantly publishing endless claims that their words are God’s voice, having their lapdogs constantly thank them for everything and encourage adulation of them all the while repeatedly misleading millions.

If God disciplined Moses for ONE moment of self-glory, what would He do to men who have built an empire on it?

The true Mediator is Christ not any human leader.

The Bible says clearly:

"There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" - 1 Timothy 2:5

Not Moses, and certainly not the governing body. Christ ALONE.

Hebrews 3:3–6 compares Moses to JESUS, not to a human hierarchy:

"Jesus has been found worthy of greater honour than Moses. Moses was faithful as a servant, but Christ as a Son over God’s house"

The governing body, by claiming a role like Moses, actually competes with Christ’s authority.

To compare the two is false, and blasphemous.

It insults Moses, it insults Scripture, and it insults the Lord Jesus who said:

"You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them... Not so with you" - Matthew 20:25–26

Moses led Israel out of bondage, the governing body keeps people in it.

It is the Governing Body who are actually like Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, pretending to be holy while wanting a place of power and influence."

Mormon Christians? Whats in a Name?

The Mormon Church, disturbed by the continuing identifying of polygamus sects in the news with the name Mormon, recently issued a press statement aimed at "clarifying" issues. It is interesting to note that if you substitute the name "Christian" where they use the name "Mormon" it makes a very good argument for us against the claims of the Mormon Church. The full press release is reproduced below in italics with each paragraph rewritten in ordinary text to present it from a Christian perspective. SALT LAKE CITY 10 July 2008 On 26 June, Newsroom published a package of information featuring profiles of ordinary Latter-day Saints in Texas. With no other intention but to define themselves, these members provided a tangible depiction of what their faith is all about. They serve as the best distinction between the lifestyles and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a Texas-based polygamous group that has recently attracted media attent...

The Dangers of Adding to the Bible: Guest Post by Jacob Lambert

T oday, when we come across Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons we find that they are led by a group of people who hold unquestioned authority. Members of this group know this, some even believe it themselves. This puts them in a powerful position, even to the point where they can create their own Bible. Two examples are the J oseph S mith Translation of the Mormons and the N ew W orld T ranslation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. T hey can add words into their own Bible, words that are not in other, respectable, translations. F or example, in the Greek, C olossians 1:1 6 say s that J esus created all things: ‘ He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him.’ Col.1:15,16, ESV Jehovah’s Witnesses say that this runs counter to their understanding that Jesus is God’s first creat...

Cheers!

In their latest update #4, the Jehovah’s Witnesses' Governing Body has announced that toasting and ‘ clinking glasses’  is now allowed at the individual Jehovah’s Witness’s ‘ bible trained conscience’ .  This, Governing Body member Stephen Lett tells us, is due to ‘ prayerful consideration’  by the Governing Body.  This doesn’t sound unreasonable; who could possibly object to toasting, it’s such an innocuous custom?  The answer to that is the Governing Body itself, until now. Ever since 1952, and possibly earlier, the Watchtower has roundly condemned this practice due to its ‘ pagan roots’  in ‘ false religion’ .  The 15 May 1952 Watchtower (page 319), has this to say on the matter Jehovah God and Christ Jesus are not honored by having pagan customs of toasting switched to them, or to human s In 1968, in an answer to  Questions from Readers,  the 1 Jan Watchtower states If a Christian is going to make a request f...
