The Truth about Mormonism - E is for Everyone

As he continues to use the acronym GOSPEL to convince the young people of their need of Mormonism, Brad Wilcox tells them that E stands for Everyone. Let me begin with a point of agreement, I believe the gospel is for everyone. Romans 1:16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 10:9-13: Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “ Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “ everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” John 3:16: “For God so loved the world , that he gave his only Son, that who

The Truth About Mormonism - P is for Priesthood (Part 2)

“My dear friends, I made a serious mistake last night, and I am truly sorry,” Brother Wilcox wrote. “The illustration I attempted to use about the timing of the revelation on the priesthood for Black members was wrong. I’ve reviewed what I said and I recognize that what I hoped to express about trusting God’s timing did NOT come through as I intended. To those I offended, especially my dear Black friends, I offer my sincere apologies, and ask for your forgiveness. I am committed to do better.” [1] What was it that Brad Wilcox said that meant he was forced to apologise not once, but twice?  After accusing the non-LDS churches of playing at church because they don’t have the priesthood, Brad decides to have a swipe at those within Mormonism who also struggle with the idea of priesthood. What Brad said Now, sadly, you live in a time where a lot of people get uptight about priesthood issues. It’s one of the most glorious things we have in the church, and yet people want to sit an

Nisan 14: Is Communion an Annual Event?

For Jehovah’s Witnesses Easter is a special time of year. It affords them the opportunity to point out to just about everyone that we’re getting just about everything wrong...again. The cross is pagan; sacraments are out of order; once-a-week, once-a-month? Pshaw! Local bakery bread? Not on their table; grape juice? Not in their cups. All who believe invited? Well yes, but just to look on. Friday 15th April 2022 saw us invited once again to observe a special commemoration. Did you go? The JW website carried the invitation, explaining: ‘ Once each year, Jehovah’s Witnesses commemorate the death of Jesus just as he commanded when he said: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”—Luke 22:19.’ My wife and I, many years ago, attended one such occasion and it seemed to me the strangest non-event I have ever seen. There was a solemn atmosphere of anticipation, everyone had dressed up especially for the occasion , a prepared talk was delivered, and a ceremony took place in which no on

The Truth About Mormonism - P is for Priesthood

Brad Wilcox could easily have said P is for playing, for as he continues to teach the Mormon youth, he tells them that all, except Mormons, are playing at church. Here he again speaks of what the Mormon church truly believes. According to Mormon doctrine, all other churches have no authority to administer any sacraments (sacred ordinances), neither can they aid you as you seek to return to Heavenly Father. They are not churches approved of by God – no they are just playing church. Authority and Priesthood Brad continues his denigration of mainstream Christianity by saying: ‘ They’re sincere, they want it to count, but they don’t have the authority. They don’t have God’s permission. So that the things they do really count on Earth and in eternity. Man, I want what I’m doing to count. And to be able to have that, we have to have the priesthood. We have to have that.’ What does he mean by authority and priesthood? From its beginnings the Mormon church has taught it is the rest

The Watch Tower and God's Purpose For Us

We have all seen the implausible graphic art on  the covers of Watchtower magazines. Paradise on Earth has been a staple promise of the Society for generations. Mixed generations, species, and races living lives perhaps best described as satisfied. I don’t know what you imagine the afterlife to be like. When I look at these pictures I always think the one who would make paradise a paradise is noticeably absent. Indeed, it is clear the paradise Jehovah’s Witnesses have to look forward to (if they survive Armageddon and pass muster at the judgement) has an absent Saviour and is ruled for eternity by a governing body of 144,000. In The Truth That Leads to Eternal Life chapter 12 we read: ‘ From his heavenly throne Jesus Christ will administer earth’s affairs in a way that will bring lasting benefits... Associated with Jesus in his heavenly kingdom will be 144,000 kings and priests taken from among mankind and made perfect by God...But will this heavenly government have any visible
